As a London wedding photographer based in South London, the Horniman Museum and Gardens is one of those venues I never get tired of returning to. Over the years I’ve captured everything from vibrant outdoor summer celebrations to intimate elopements and stylish humanist weddings here. It’s a true gem full of charm, character and that wonderful South London warmth.

From my perspective, the Horniman Museum is a dream wedding venue. The Conservatory is light-filled and elegant, the gardens are full of variety, and the quirky museum details add something totally unique. There are plenty of quiet spots to sneak away for portraits, and so many ways to make the space feel personal to you. But equally you can keep the decor simple if preferred as the architecture is fabulous on its own.

The Victorian Conservatory
Flooded with natural light, the Conservatory is a standout space. It’s elegant, timeless and looks beautiful dressed up or kept simple. I love capturing ceremonies here, as the light and original features create such a romantic atmosphere.
The Bandstand
With its iconic silhouette and sweeping views of London, the Bandstand is perfect for summer ceremonies or post-ceremony drinks. It adds a real sense of occasion and makes a brilliant backdrop for group shots too.
The Pavilion
The Pavilion is a flexible modern space with huge glass windows that open out onto the gardens. It works beautifully for smaller receptions, laid-back afternoon teas or as a chill-out area after dancing in the Conservatory.

- Which season are you getting married? The gardens look amazing year-round but have different personalities depending on the time of year whether it’s spring blooms, summer sunshine, autumn colour, and even winter light can be beautiful.
- Personalise your choices. The Horniman is relaxed and flexible, ideal for humanist ceremonies, cultural traditions or something a little different (ceilidh dancing, anyone?!).
- Keep travel in mind. The venue is close to Forest Hill station and well connected to central London, so your guests won’t have trouble getting there but parking is limited so it’s good to give a heads-up.
