Fun outdoor countryside wedding at Bartholomew Barn in Sussex
If you love laid back weddings with garden games, cocktails and partying the night away then you’ll enjoy this fabulous wedding at Bartholomew Barn!
Cady and Dave got married at the pretty and rustic Bartholomew Barn, West Sussex, in April. It was a super fun outdoor wedding, with paper lanterns, pretty flowers and a relaxed vibe to the day.
The couple has been together for years so this really was a celebration of their love! Surrounded by their friends and family it was clear they are loved by all and a perfect match. It was a fabulous day and a beautiful wedding at Bartholomew Barn.
Getting ready
Cady got ready in a little private room at the barn with her mum and flower girls. When I arrived her hair and makeup was nearly finished and there was a feeling of nervous anticipation. She had a fabulous beauty team in Carolanne Armstrong and Mel Kinsmen. Cady wore a stunning beaded Rosa Clara dress that oozed elegance and looked so glamorous. The getting ready venue was a short walk from the ceremony venue so when everyone was ready Cady was accompanied by her dad and the flower girls to get married.
The ceremony
The ceremony took place in the courtyard of the barn. The couple stood in the doorway while their guests sat outside in the courtyard. The area was so perfect for the ceremony, with chairs sat around a carp pond and the guests all able to see the happy couple say their vows. The ceremony began with a few tears of joy from Cady and finished with the couple dancing back down the aisle together. It was a moving ceremony, full of lots of laughter and so much love.
After the ceremony and some very enthusiastic confetti throwing, I left the couple to mingle, which was the perfect time for me to get candid photos. For the reception, the couple had set up lawn games and a cocktail bar for their guests, and everyone had a blast – Cady & Dave had arranged for a Saxophone player to provide music during the reception. The weather was surprisingly warm for an early Spring day so everyone was enjoying being outside. After some family photos and a few more cocktails, we went for couples portraits. This is such a great time for the newly married couple to have some private time to let everything sink in. I got some relaxed and happy couples photos outdoors in the garden.
Everyone was then called in for a very delicious wedding breakfast. They had speeches during the courses, which were really touching – There were some very emotional moments from Cady’s dad. The groom and best man’s speech had plenty of laughs and a few embarrassing moments. Just what you want for speech time.
The party
After the meal was finished, it was time to turn the room around and get the party started, and the dancefloor was a very popular place to be and the DJ kept the party going all night. The Sax player joined in the fun and brought awesome live music to the dance floor. It didn’t take long before the limbo pole was brought out, which was genius! Always a lot of fun to watch people try to manoeuvre themselves under a limbo pole!
I had such fun photographing Cady & Dave’s wedding. They are the loveliest couple and a lot of fun to spend time with. I’m sure there were a few sore heads the next day, but it was one hell of a celebration! I have to give a shout out to Ellie from Bower Events, who was a total star co-ordinating the wedding on the day.
