A rustic outdoor wedding blessing at Gildings Barn in Surrey
When I first talked to Lucy she said that they were planning to do their wedding in a different way. They decided to have a small wedding ceremony at Marylebone Registry Office in London, to make things official. One week later they then had an outdoor wedding blessing at Gildings Barn. The civil ceremony was a small affair with immediate family. The beautiful rustic outdoor wedding blessing at Gildings Barn was the opportunity for them to invite all their friends and family and have a bigger celebration.
They couldn’t have asked for a better day for their blessing. The sun shone, the weather was warm, it was a perfect Summer’s day. Everything was set up for the ceremony on the lawn outside the main barn. The prettiest floral bunting and beautiful summery blooms decorated the small wooden cabin behind where the couple would stand to say their vows.
Guests began to arrive and chatted in small groups, enjoying the warm weather. It was soon time for everyone to sit and for Jon to take his position at the front. Lucy had arrived and was enjoying a little glass of Champagne, while her bridesmaids did finishing touches and attached Lucy’s veil. There were smiles all round as Lucy and her dad made their way down the aisle. The celebrant who was conducting the wedding blessing was Jenny Knight. Jenny is the loveliest person, she is warm and smiley and had clearly made a real effort to get to know Lucy and Jon and find out about them. The ceremony was both touching and funny. Lucy and Jon signed a commemorative certificate and then made their way back down the aisle to cheers and confetti. Closely followed by the bridesmaids, dancing to the music and shaking pink maracas. The perfect way for the celebrations to start!
It was a wonderful countryside Summer wedding, with drinks, food, garden games and a beautifully warm, sunny day. During the drinks reception, I whisked the bride and groom off to take some relaxed portraits. We found a nearby field that was the perfect spot to capture the mood of their laid back rustic outdoor wedding blessing.
The day rolled on and speeches followed dinner. The warm day turned into a beautiful mild Summers evening and everyone mingled outside once more. Making sure to get the last of the evening light. Drinks were drunk, including a few shots, and games started again. It wasn’t long before the band started up and the dancing started. Lucy and Jon didn’t really want to do the first dance as such, so they encouraged all their guests to join them on the dance floor. They really did go for it. Lots of great dancing and a lot of fun. As the sun went down I left the couple and their loved ones to party the night away.
I really would love to photograph more outdoor ceremonies. Sadly, the law doesn’t allow for weddings to legally take place outside, so it’s something you don’t get that often. I’m pretty sure more people would choose to be married in the great outdoors given half the chance. It makes it really special when it does happen and I loved photographing Lucy and Jon’s outdoor wedding blessing at Gildings Barn. Enjoy sharing this beautiful countryside celebration with the prettiest rustic details.
