Beautiful outdoor wedding at Lyde Court
Every now and again I team up with a wedding magazine or a wedding blog to offer one couple the chance to win their wedding photography. This is something I enjoy doing as it not only allows someone on a tight budget to get wedding photography that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford, but it allows me to meet couples who I might otherwise not get the chance to meet and work at places I haven’t worked at before. Marlie & Philip won the competition I ran in Wedding Magazine and so off I headed to Hereford and Lyde Court to capture their wonderful home-made and laid back outdoor countryside wedding. The outdoor bit was touch and go for a while as the clouds scooted past bringing rain showers mixed with sunshine.
It was a very calm scene that met me when I arrived. Marlie was having her make up done, while her sisters and parents were helping Philip with the final decorative touches. The couple had chosen wonderful florist Bride & Bloom to create beautiful bouquets, buttonholes and flower crowns filled with British flowers. I totally fell in love with these flowers, the loose hand-tied style with simple ribbons and a real natural feel totally fitted with the style of wedding Marlie & Philip had. Their whole approach to the day was to just enjoy themselves and have a wonderfully relaxed and happy day. They were totally true to their own style, from the choice of venue, the outdoor ceremony, the pretty DIY decorations and right down to Marlie wearing flat shoes, because she never wears heels. Marlie’s family is from the Netherlands so included fun little details such a flower-filled clogs to line the outdoor aisle.
As the ceremony time approached the guests took their seats on the benches in the walled garden. Marlie walked around the building with her dad and bridesmaids and made her way to Philip. The ceremony was lovely, with Philips Grandad saying some words, which were both touching and funny. Halfway through the ceremony the wind picked up and the blackest clouds descended bringing a shower of rain. Marlie & Philip took it in their stride, saying their vows and exchanging rings regardless of the raindrops falling around them. As they were announced as Husband and Wife the heavens opened and everyone ran for the shelter of the building where the couple were signing the register. One of their friends sang a beautiful Dutch song as the rain passed and finally the new Mr & Mrs could make their way to their reception celebrations with enthusiastic confetti throwing by all to send them on their way. Another torrential rain shower had the guests running for the barn for drinks, but happily, before long the clouds passed and the most beautiful sunny day appeared. Finally, everyone could enjoy the gardens, the games the couple had set up and sitting in the sunshine chit-chatting.
Marlie, Philip and I took a wander around the gardens, grounds and the main house to capture some photos of the two of them before they and their guests made their way to the barn for food. A delicious dinner was followed by speeches by Marlie’s mum, Philip and the best man. The finale to the speeches was a slideshow by Marlie’s dad sharing photos of Marlie as a child and telling a few stories about her. It was a very sweet and funny end to the speech time.
The couple had chosen to book a ceilidh band for the evening’s entertainment and dancing. While the band set up the guests moved into the garden area outside the barn where there were drinks being served and a bouncy castle for the kids (and a fair few adults) to have some fun on. When the band were ready everyone hurled themselves into the dancing, as is the way with ceilidhs. It was fun and chaotic! I left the couple celebrating with their loved ones and having a great time. I was thrilled to be a part of this special day and be able to provide a wonderful memory for Marlie & Philip of their fabulous outdoor countryside wedding at Lyde Court.
