South London Wedding Photography – A Sparkly & Stylish Winter Belair House wedding
When Natasha and Joe first got in touch with me about their Belair House wedding in Dulwich, I was so excited. They were planning a romantic and stylish winter wedding with fairy lights, sparklers and a relaxed vibe. Belair House is a venue I know well and was really looking forward to working at, having lived around the corner for many years. Natasha and Joe are the loveliest people and I couldn’t wait to shoot their wedding!
I personally love a winter wedding, and they’re becoming ever more popular for a variety of reasons. If you’re curious to read more about the benefits of having what’s now known as an offseason wedding (any wedding that doesn’t happen in the summer months) then do check out my blog post here – five reasons to have an off-season wedding.
Getting ready
I turned up at The Crown & Greyhound in Dulwich Village, where the bride and her friends were getting ready. It was all very calm and relaxed with hair and makeup being done and lots of chatting and excitement. Natasha wore a stunning Elbeth Gillis dress, which she had chosen from the Love Bridal wedding boutique where she worked. As Natasha was finishing getting ready I caught up with Joe and the groomsmen for a few photos outside the pub. They all looked very dapper in their tuxes.
Belair House wedding
The wedding took place at Belair House and was a beautiful, fun and happy ceremony. They had a wonderful reading by Natasha’s brother, which everyone enjoyed. There were giggles and smiles throughout the ceremony (especially when Natasha struggled to get the ring on Joe’s finger!) After the ceremony they walked down the aisle together and were showered with confetti. It was then time for the celebrations to begin!
The party
The wedding reception took place at the same venue, which was very easy. It was relaxed and a perfect winter wedding reception. The room was decorated with fairy lights, candles and photos of the couple. As it was dark even before the ceremony, the lights in the reception made it feel really cosy, which was perfect for a winter wedding. While the guests enjoyed canapes and drinks, the couple mingled and laughed with their friends and families.
During the reception, they did the speeches, which went down a storm. It’s always a great way to do speeches a little bit differently. By having them during the drinks reception the pressure is off the speakers a little and its all very relaxed and makes for fun photos! For the meal, they had bowl food, which was served after the speeches, and it was so yummy. Having food served during the reception made for a wonderfully informal party and added to the relaxed feel of the day. After food, I took the opportunity to whisk the bride and groom outside for a few night time photos and a few photos in the stunning entrance hall and on the staircase of the venue
When we returned it was time for the party to get started. The couple hit the dance floor and heir guests quickly joined in. It was clear they were up for having a great night and really celebrating Natasha & Joe’s stunning Belair House wedding. A quick pitstop for some sparkler waving on the terrace and then it was time for me to leave.
