A fabulous laid back same-sex wedding in London
If you’re planning a same-sex wedding in London, you’ll love this wedding for inspiration!
Carl and Jack got married at Asylum, which is a Grade II listed building and event space in London with outdoor space for drinks after the ceremony. It was such a fun wedding and the sun even made an appearance!
The Ceremony at Asylum
The ceremony was a beautiful service. The grooms walked down the aisle together. They had chosen their siblings to be ring bearers. It was emotional and happy in equal parts. As Carl and Jack walked back down the aisle as husband and husband the place erupted in cheers.
They decorated the space with a couple of simple floral displays and candles, which I loved. The reception was split into two parts (any excuse to spread the celebrations!). With the first part straight after the ceremony at Asylum – I love this venue because you can totally personalise it. Weddings at Asylum are amazing because it’s just so unusual.
The newly married couple exited the building to more cheers and confetti. It was then time for reception part one! Food and drinks were served, everyone relaxed and chatted, enjoying the sunshine. We did a few family photos and I took Carl and Jack back into the building for some photos of the two of them.
Soon it was time to make our way to the big red London bus for the journey to East Dulwich Tavern and part two of the reception.
The Reception at East Dulwich Tavern
The couple had a drinks reception in the afternoon at the pub followed by a buffet dinner (which was amazing!). It was a perfect pub reception with plenty of food, drinks flowing and everyone having a great time. The speeches took place before the buffet dinner and were a brilliant mix of funny, emotional and embarrassing. Jacks brother and Carls sister both said a few words. Then Carl and Jack did a joint speech which was just wonderful.
Before the evening party started the grooms cut their wedding cake and we did a quick dash outside for a few evening photos.
The Evening party
The evening party kicked off with the first dance. A fabulously choreographed dance by the two grooms. It was a perfect way to start the party. Everyone quickly joined them on the dance floor and what followed was possibly one of the best music sets, comprised of amazing female pop icons and 80’s and 90’s dancefloor fillers. When the Spice Girls came on I had to join in for a quick dance before finishing up for the evening.
I left Carl and Jack dancing the night away with their friends and family. It was an amazing day and a truly wonderful laid back same-sex wedding in London.
As part of their wedding photography package, Carl and Jack added an engagement shoot. Take a look at their sunny Kew Gardens engagement shoot.
