Winter proposal at Kew Gardens
I do love a proposal at Kew Gardens. Especially a winter proposal at Kew Gardens when there is snow on the ground and it looks like the most beautiful winter wonderland!
Planning a proposal is exciting and nerve-wracking in equal measure. It’s kind of the same for a photographer, wanting it to be perfect. Making sure that its the right place, the right background and capturing the moment with all the emotions that go along with the proposal. Being a very small part of Tom and Connie’s proposal was very exciting. If I could guarantee snow on all the winter proposals I photograph I would be a very happy photographer.
Tom and Connie were visiting London for a few days and Tom had decided he wanted to propose at Kew Gardens. We had a few chats in the run up to the day to discuss timings and where he would like to propose. There does need to be a fair amount of planning for proposal shoots. Agreeing the time and the place I arrived early (as I always do). With a coffee in one hand and my camera in the other I wandered looking every inch a visitor. Sometimes I will randomly photograph plants and trees, just so I am not noticed! Tom stopped as if to check something, then swiftly dropped to one knee. With a gorgeous engraved wooden ring box in hand he asked Connie to marry him and happily she said ‘Yes!
A proposal is such a special moment I like to wait for a little while before saying ‘hello’. Connie noticed me and started laughing, clearly realising what Tom had arranged. We had half an hour to wander round Kew so decided to make the most of the snow. It really was so beautiful, and so quiet in the gardens. Connie wanted to do a few photos inside the Temperate House as well so we included a few inside the glass house.
I left the happy couple to wander the gardens before heading for a celebratory lunch. It’s such an honour to capture moments like this, knowing they will bring back amazing memories.
