Natural Family Photography – Is this right for you and your family?
Natural family photography is one of my favourite things to shoot. It’s so easy to forget how important family photos are. There’s a lot to think about and a lot to plan all the time and you want to capture it all and make sure you make the right choice of photographer. So, is natural family photography right for you?
I like to think of it, like this: I’m a mum to constantly growing boy (who is nearly as tall as I am!) and even though I’m a photographer I often forget to take photos of our day to day life. Yet, these are the photos I adore to look back on. The natural and informal photos that capture the cuddles, the laughs, the silliness, the games and even the sulks. Family photography only gets more valuable and precious as time goes by.
We all say it but kids really do grow up so quickly. It seems only yesterday my son was a toddler and now he’s at secondary school and is changing every day. The chubby hands and round cheeks have gone, being replaced by long limbs, big feet and floppy hair. There are days he seem all knees and elbows! The photos of him, and us as a family, are the some of most special photos I have.
This is one of the reasons I started photographing families and one of the things I love most about it. For me, the best photos are ones that are relaxed and candid and capture you and your family just being yourselves. The cheeky grins, the biggest hugs and the silly faces. Your unique family captured in a beautiful, natural and fun way.
I love to shoot with the natural light in your home and in the great outdoors. Natural family photography is very easy going with your children being the ones in the driving seat. It’s a relaxed and fun experience, which are mainly undirected, but I with a little direction where needed. I want you to feel at ease from the start and simply enjoy spending time with your family while I capture photos of you. So whether that’s at home photography, on the beach photography, or in a beautiful park, I’m happy to come to wherever you feel most natural.
Within all my shoots I will include a few more ‘posed’ photos. These are still very relaxed photos. It’s a chance to get a few images where everyone is together. I do my best to get you all looking at the camera, but its not the end of the world if that doesn’t happen. I know it’s likely that one of your little ones will be looking in a different direction, or get distracted. And that’s fine.
Natural family photography isn’t perfect. It’s about getting a perfect moment, and if that is your toddler eating a biscuit that’s fine. If your baby looks at you, not the camera, that’s fine. If the weather isn’t perfect, that’s fine. As long as you are enjoying time together that’s what matters.
