Lydia & Tom’s elegant Summer wedding in Cambridge, at Kings College
It was a stunning Summers day, hot and sunny with a gentle breeze. The perfect day for a wedding in Cambridge! Lydia & Tom chose to marry in the beautiful St Bene’ts Church just a short walk from Kings College, where they held their reception.
They both had (separate) rooms in Kings College for the morning preparations. Lydia’s suite overlooked pretty gardens, where the sun streamed in. There was a buzz of activity when I arrived, with make up and hair being done, the wedding dress having a final iron and the veil being hung, to let any creases drop out. As is often the case on a wedding morning, the time flew by and it was very soon time for Lydia to get into her dress. She chose a simple and elegant Suzanne Neville dress, which looked stunning. Her Dad was brought to tears when he arrived to walk her to the church. We all bustled out of the room, only to discover forgotten earrings. There followed an emergency dash to get them from the room again and we were ready to go.
In the other rooms, the guys busied themselves with suits, ties and waistcoats. Speeches were practised and final preparations were made to head to the church and greet guests.
Lydia really did stop traffic as she walked the short distance from Kings College to St Bene’ts in the middle of Cambridge!
The ceremony itself was so lovely. Tom was teary-eyed, as were half the wedding party. The most wonderful vows were exchanged and Lydia & Tom announced as husband and wife. A very joyous moment. They greeted their guests at the church entrance and everyone made their way back to Kings College for the reception. As Lydia & Tom arrived they were met with confetti galore and lots of cheering.
By now it was seriously hot and cold drinks on the lawn were very welcome. Towards the end of the reception, I whisked the newly married couple away to the private gardens for a few photos and a little quiet time together. Once their guests were all seated we headed back and Lydia & Tom were heralded into the grand hall by a Trumpet and lots of applause. The speeches followed dinner and brought more teary eyes as well as plenty of laughter (and a little embarrassment… well, it wouldn’t be a wedding speech without a little embarrassment from someone!)
The gorgeous day turned into an equally gorgeous evening and as the sunset and golden hour arrived in all its glory I had a little more time to capture some beautiful evening photos of Lydia & Tom. We returned ready for cake cutting and dancing. I left the happy couple surrounded by friends, with very large bottles of wine, ready to party the night away.
I had the best time photographing this stunning Summer wedding in Cambridge. The colleges there are something else when you throw in fun guests, a sunset to die for and two of the loveliest people it really was a perfect day.
“What can I say to properly sum up how much we love the pictures?! They are completely stunning and we can’t stop going through them.
We are so SO glad we booked you, they are more beautiful than we could have imagined. Thank you for being so good at what you do and for being such a help to us.” – Lydia & Tom
