An elegant Roof Gardens wedding of two cultures, with a beautiful Kimono wearing bride and flamingos.
One of the things that I love most about photographing weddings is when a couple brings their own unique style to their wedding day. Jumana and Sabih certainly did this. Jumana’s family is Japanese and Arabic and Sabih’s family is Pakistani. The couple brought together many elements of their cultural heritage to make their wedding truly theirs and an unforgettable day at that. I loved that Jumana chose to wear a Kimono to get married in. This wasn’t just any Kimono either, it was her Mum’s and it was beautiful.
Choosing to have their wedding at the roof gardens seemed a perfect choice. The venue is a little oasis high up on the rooftops, with flamingo’s and themed gardens. It seems a million miles away from the bustling city below and has a real feel of somewhere a little more exotic than Kensington!
The ceremony itself was emotional, with both bride and groom and their guests shedding a tear or two. It’s clear that these two are the most wonderful couple and loved so dearly by all who were there. The moment they were introduced as Husband and Wife the room erupted in cheers. Jumana and Sabih made their entrance into their wedding reception with showers of confetti and hugs from emotional loved ones. The sun came out and everyone relaxed, enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
It’s always lovely to whisk the newly married couple away for a few photos. In the Roof Gardens, this is easy and we made our escape to one of the other gardens, away from the drinks reception. Before everyone sat for dinner (it really is the most amazing food) Jumana rounded up her single friends for the bouquet throw. A slightly chaotic event, but a lot of fun none the less.
The speeches followed the dinner, with both laughter and tears. Both Dads said a few words, friends shared happy memories of the couple and Sabih’s Mum finished off the speeches. Jumana had chosen to change her outfit for the evening, realising a kimono is not the best choice for dancing! I took the chance to grab a few more photos in another of the gardens once she had got changed.
Before long it was time for their first dance. As first dances go, these two went for it. They performed the most amazing choreographed routine that I will never forget. As soon as they had finished the dance floor filled. These two and their guests know how to dance and how to have a party! The dance floor was jumping with every generation enjoying the dancing.
It was the most amazing day, I had such fun! Jumana and Sabih are the loveliest couple and it was a real honour to photograph their roof gardens wedding.
I hope you have enjoyed this wedding, it was such a fun day to be a part of and photograph.
