A stunning wedding in Tuscany – day two – the wedding day

Stand by for a big blog post here! Day two of Som and Jonny’s amazing wedding in Tuscany. The second day of their Italian wedding weekend looked something like this…

(You can see day one here, with their fabulous pre-wedding Indian celebration)

After the Friday and the dance-filled celebrations, it was time for the wedding day. I made the most of being in beautiful Tuscany and woke early, enjoying a quiet breakfast overlooking the rolling hills. The first event of the day was the pool party at midday so as it was early I decided to take a wander and check out the venue and the surrounding area. Even at 9 am it was baking hot. I hadn’t had the time to really take in the place the evening before, or notice all the decorations that Som, Jonny and their families had worked so hard to put together. Beautifully ornate and detailed parasols decorated the hedge by the main walkway. Ribbons with bells and charms were hung from the trees. Flower garlands decorated the steps and candles were placed along the walls and by the pool. It was all so pretty and so colourful.

Walking from the main building through the gardens I found myself on the path that led to the top of the hill, where the ceremony was due to take place later in the day. The views took my breath away. So beautiful and so peaceful, with a warm breeze drifting across the hills and just the chirping of crickets to break the silence. It was soon time for me to walk back and get ready for the celebrations of the day to begin.

The first event of the day was the pool party. Many of the guests who were staying at the Borgio Di Castelvecchio were relaxing by the pool, enjoying a spot of lunch. Wanting to have a bit of fun before everyone started getting ready for the wedding Som and Jonny kicked things off with some pool games. Madness with balls, inflatable rings and lots of jumping followed! Great fun all round.

Som and Jonny had decided they were going to do a first look before the ceremony. A chance to see each other, ease any nerves and get a few photos before everything got really busy. Som was getting ready in the building at the top of the hill, next to where the ceremony was being held. It was very calm, with just her and the bridesmaids. Hairstylists were there to help out and all the girls did their own makeup. When Som’s dress arrived I think I actually might have squealed. She had the most amazing coral Oscar De La Renta dress. It was totally stunning! I feel so strongly that people should follow their own style when it comes to their wedding, this includes their choices of dress. Som’s dress was exactly the kind of thing that ticks all the boxes for me. Add to that a pair of awesome silver Miu Miu shoes and an Oscar De La Renta statement necklace and Som looked breathtaking. Jonny was certainly bowled over when he saw her walking around the corner. I love doing photos of first looks, it’s always such a special time and I feel very privileged to be able to capture photos of these moments. After a little time together Som headed back into the building while Jonny and the ushers started welcoming the guests.

As ceremony venues go this one was pretty unbeatable. The guests were seated in a wide semi-circle, facing a large tree decorated with white ribbons. Pretty bunches of flowers in jars and flower petals on the grass were lining the aisle. The beautiful flowers were put together by florists Puscina. It was late afternoon and the heat of the day was softening slightly. The bridesmaids walked down the aisle first, followed by Som and her parents. The ceremony was officiated by a family friend so was wonderfully personal. Readings, prayers and poems were read by Som’s dad, Jonny’s mum and one of the bridesmaids. So many smiles, some happy and emotional tears and lots of hugs brought the ceremony to an end. Som and Jonny walked back down the aisle to bubbles and cheers. The first part of the drinks reception was held at the top of the hill. When it was time to head back towards the main building and the next part of the reception there were Indian drummers to lead the way. Som was carried by Jonny and the ushers, with the guests following behind.

As the day turned to the evening and another beautiful sunset I grabbed a few moments with Som and Jonny for some photos with the Tuscan hills as a backdrop. Soon it was time to return to the celebrations and sit for dinner. I totally loved Som and Jonny’s table plan. Each table was named after an animal with animal masks that related to the name. It was the most surreal and funny thing to walk around the tables seeing people with Polar Bear, Donkey and Giraffe masks on!

Wonderful speeches followed by Som’s dad, Som and Jonny and then Jonny’s two best men and the bridesmaids. Some rather emotional moments as well as a fair few funny stories. The dinner finished with boxes of After Eight being handed out to each table with instructions on how to play the After Eight game. I had no idea what this was either until I started watching slightly hysterical guests try to move the chocolate from their forehead to their mouth without using their hands. A guaranteed winner if you want mad laughter and a face full of chocolate!

It was soon time for the party to move back to the pool area, where the band was already playing and the impressive cake was ready to cut. Som and Jonny followed the cake cutting with a very impressive first dance and then the dance floor filled again. The party was in full flow with everyone having the best time.

This really was a wedding I will never forget. I received such a wonderful welcome from Som, Jonny and their families, as well as the people at the Borgio. The two days were so amazing, filled with some truly spectacular events and moments. Above all, it was a pleasure and privilege to be able to capture photos of two people who are so clearly perfect for each other and mad about each other. A huge thanks to Som and Jonny for asking me to photograph their wedding in Tuscany.

I was thrilled that Rock My Wedding featured this gorgeous Tuscany wedding on their blog – thank you!
