Maya & Ash’s amazing colourful British African wedding
This is a wedding I should have blogged a long time ago. I photographed this wonderful, colourful British African wedding a couple of years ago and at the time was pretty rubbish with blogging. The years flown by and I tried to keep up with sharing newer weddings, so it kept getting missed. Last year I caught up with Maya & Ash again, to do a family photoshoot for them and it reminded me that I had never got round to blogging their wedding. So, finally here it is!
Getting Ready
I arrived at Maya’s mum house and it was buzzing with activity. Cooking in progress, make up and hair being sorted, an ironing board in the hallway with outfits ready to go. There was music and chat, laughter and fun. In a small oasis of quiet, Maya got dressed in one of the bedrooms and it was time for her to head to the church for the ceremony.
On their wedding day Maya was pregnant with her first baby, so chose a pretty detailed dress that had lacing up the back. A very wise idea as a baby bump has a habit of growing as you eat (I remember that well)!
Ash was looking very dapper, having had a suit specially made for the day.
St Stephens Church Enfield Ceremony
The couple married at St Stephens Church in Enfield in a beautiful, happy and emotional ceremony. Maya’s mum walked her down the aisle, as her dad was in a wheelchair. She looked proud as could be to be escorting her beautiful daughter. The day was filled with joy and laughter and the ceremony was no different. There were cheers and congratulations as the gorgeous couple walked back down the aisle.
The Reception & Party
After some family photos outside the church everyone made their way to the wedding reception. This was held in a gorgeous garden with a large marquee. They had decorated the marquee with simple colourful flowers and different coloured napkins. After a few drinks in the garden everyone was seated and Maya and Ash had their first dance. They were soon joined on the dance floor by the wedding party and parents. Their awesome MC (Mr Tandoh) got the dance floor going with games and challenges. The bouquet throw started things off, followed by the shoe game and then everyone was welcomed onto the dance floor to join in. It was so much fun!
There was a little time out from the dancing for speeches and food. Maya and Ash, with the wedding party, went to get changed into their traditional outfits. All ready for the evening party.
They looked amazing! Both dressed in bright red, it was the perfect time to get a few relaxed couples shots. Getting them to stand in the middle of the green of the garden made for beautiful, colourful portraits.
It was soon back to the marquee and time for more dancing. The MC got everyone up and the dancefloor was jumping! It was a hot, sweaty, amazing, fun and fabulous was to spend the evening. I left the happy couple taking a breather outside while their friends partied away.
Hope you enjoy Maya and Ash’s amazing colourful British African wedding.
