A Christmassy Winter Wedding at St Etheldreda’s and The Trafalgar Tavern

When Niki and Anthony first got in touch with me about their Winter wedding in London, I was so thrilled – they were planning a relaxed and stylish wedding with a real Christmas feel, a London bus to transport their guests and an Alice In Wonderland theme. Niki and Anthony are the loveliest people and I couldn’t wait to shoot their wedding!

The Morning excitement

I started shooting at The Hilton in Greenwich, where the couple and their friends were getting ready, and it was so relaxed with everyone was in a good mood. Niki wore a fabulous Justin Alexander dress with a faux fur stole and Anthony wore a stylish suit and black tie, they looked so incredible. Perfect for a Winter wedding.

I travelled to the church with the groom and his groomsmen, so was ready to capture photos of everyone arriving at the church.

Against all the odds of London traffic, Niki turned up 20 minutes early so there was a little ushering to make sure guests didn’t see her hiding in the back of the cab around the corner from the church!

The Church Ceremony

The wedding took place at St Etheldreda’s Church in central London and was a beautiful church ceremony. They had a full choir, which was just magical. The ceremony was a perfect mix of smiles, laughter and emotion.

After the ceremony, there was a big cheer as the couple made their way down the aisle, and then the celebrations began. As the bride and groom greeted their guests outside the church, the prosecco was popped and the wedding party handed out the fizz. All the guests made their way onto the red bus ready for the journey to the reception.

The Reception at The Trafalgar Tavern

The wedding reception took place at The Trafalgar Tavern in Greenwich, which was adorned with all things Christmassy. The couple had chosen to add their own touches with a theme from Alice In Wonderland. There were books covered in Winter foliage as table centrepieces. Keys with names on and a little ‘Drink Me’ bottle as the wedding favour. It was wonderful.

It was an overcast day, which didn’t bother them at all. They had accepted a Winter wedding came with the risk of dodgy weather! We quickly dashed outside for a few couples photos overlooking the Thames. The bride and groom then entered back into the reception to showers of confetti as they walked up the stairs. One of my favourite photos from the afternoon is the confetti shot. Such fun!

The couple joined their guests for drinks and soon it was time for dinner, followed by speeches. There were some very emotional moments, with tears from the brides’ gran and the grooms mum. But some equally funny and embarrassing moments during the best man’s speech! They ended dinner with mini confetti canons as each table had fun popping the glittery confetti.

Niki & Anthony had a live band to kick off the party and after the first dance everyone piled onto the dance floor ready to party the night away.

This was a wonderful Winter wedding, with fun, laughter and a very happy couple.

“We are a very unfussy couple and really wanted natural but quality photo’s that capture the little moments of the day. Working in graphics & media, I am naturally very picky when it comes to photography so it took a while searching through a number of wedding photographers but when we came across Fiona’s website, I instantly loved her style and knew she had to be our photographer!

It’s a decision that we haven’t regretted at all. On the actual wedding day, Fiona became an unofficial bridesmaid to me, she helped us to figure out how to hook up my train, chased hotel staff when I needed an ironing board & helped to move guests into the church when I turned up half an hour early! She never got in the way or pressured us into any formal shots that we hadn’t already planned for. She was happy to work with suggestions and let my friends pull her to the side for extra photos.

Our plans changed several times and Fiona handled it like a pro, quickly adapting to suit our needs & make us feel comfortable. It’s clear that Fiona judges the best shots as the wedding happens around her, never once did it feel like we were just another wedding with a standard photo list to check through. We have come away with hundreds of photo’s full of laughter and joy that shows the craziness of our family & friends, whilst still getting the family group shots. Her personality shines through her photos – warm, funny & understands what moments really matter throughout your big day. Our photos are amazing and we would recommend her to anybody in a heartbeat!” – Niki & Anthony
